FLEXI-cross UC2 Demonstration at Ormenio Border Crossing

The FLEXI-cross project successfully conducted the Use Case 2 (UC2) demonstration at the Ormenio border crossing point on the Greek-Bulgarian border, showcasing innovative solutions for smarter, more secure, and efficient border management.

The UC2 pilot aimed to validate an integrated system that merges existing border control processes with state-of-the-art mobile and deployable technologies, supporting both border authorities and travellers.

Key advancements demonstrated include:

  • Real-time identity validation through digital mobile applications

  • Improved detection of irregular cross-border activities

  • Enhanced data accuracy, integrity, and processing speed

  • Integration of the Citizen mobile application with the wi-move backend platform in live operational conditions

This milestone marks a major step in modernizing border procedures, aligning with FLEXI-cross objectives to foster innovation, enhance security, and streamline border operations across Europe.

Ethical and Societal Implications of Security Technologies in Border Management – Online workshop

Join our upcoming webinar to delve into the ethical and societal impacts of security technologies in the border management sector.

This collaborative event, hosted by four EU-funded projects: I-SEAMORE, BAG-INTEL, ODYSSEUS, and FLEXI-cross—will gather leading experts to discuss the latest advancements and obstacles in ensuring these technologies align with legal, societal, and ethical standards.

Keynotes will address legal frameworks like the AI Act, ethical concerns around privacy and bias, and technical approaches to integrating values such as fairness and transparency into border management solutions. We’ll also tackle the practical challenges of implementing these principles in real-world scenarios.

The webinar offers a valuable platform for consortium members—ethics and legal specialists, civil society representatives, security agencies, and technology providers—to share insights and collaborate on meaningful next steps forward.

The webinar is planned to take place on the 20th of November 2024. For registration, follow the link: Here

FLEXI-cross will be represented by Mr George Agapiou from WINGS (Greece).

First Technical Workshop

On the 4th of December 2023, all FLEXI-cross partners gathered virtually via teams for the 1st Technical workshop.

During the workshop, technical partners, EBOS, WINGS, ENG, HOLO, BEIA and ICCS, took the initiative to showcase their corresponding modules, which exhibited impressive capabilities and functionalities, setting the stage for a transformative collaboration within the realm of Border crossing.

In the last part of the workshop, an engaging and interactive discussion with end users and Use Case owners took place through a virtual round table, moderated by the project coordinator Mr Giuseppe Vella.

We would like to thank all partners who contributed to the success of this technical event, and we look forward for new achievements.
